At Twentyone, we like to keep you up-to-date on all the latest goings-on in the world of social media, especially when it affects your business.
So, we’d like to introduce you to the newly launched Facebook app for iPads and iPhones. The new app features details about local businesses, star ratings, and has added the Like, Call, or Check-In buttons to the top of business and brand pages.
Facebook says this is their first “truly mobile-first” redesign, with minimal changes scheduled for the web version.
This new focus makes sense since most of Facebook’s business, organisation and public figure Page visits now come from mobile devices.
In addition to brand pages, Facebook has 15 million local business pages.
Making the Like, Check-in, and Recommend buttons more prominent is designed to inspire people to use them more often.
On brand Pages, Facebook now highlights ‘Message’ and ‘Share’ buttons at the top to encourage people to communicate privately with a Page or help friends discover it.
There’s also a new layout for companies who have both a central brand and a local business page, with the brand page showing links to the local business pages.
In addition to these changes, Facebook launched Nearby in December, a search feature that allows same-type businesses to be ranked by Likes, check-ins, ratings, and where your friends go.
Shortly afterwards, it launched Graph Search with local business search. Both of these rely on data from users to improve rankings.
The latest version (6.0+) of Facebook for iOS has already been launched, but an Android app version will be rolled out very soon.
Facebook says it plans to learn from the mobile redesign to see how it can be applied to its web layout.
Although the social network has a way to go before it can match Yelp or Google’s Zagat, this redesign should help.
